Offering Mass for a special Intention is a long established tradition in the Catholic Church. When a priest celebrates Mass, he offers the Eucharistic celebration for a particular person or intention. By doing so, he applies special graces from God upon that person or intention.
A Mass intention can be for one person, a married couple, a parent and child, or a family and may be requested for a variety of reasons.in thanksgiving, for the intentions of another person such as on a birthday or wedding anniversary, or for the repose of the soul of someone who has died.
Payment is not required for a Mass intention, however donations are always welcome and appreciated. The customary offering is $10 - $15 per intention. The Christian faithful who give an offering to apply the Mass for their intention contribute to the good of the Church and by that offering share its concern to support its ministers and works. (Can. 946). Your offering signifies the sacrificial nature of giving of something of yourself to associate more intimately with Christ who offers himself in the Eucharist.
To allow everyone a fair chance to book special dates, a maximum of 10 Masses may be reserved per household per year. As per Canon Law and diocesan statute, one Mass should be scheduled for the intentions of our parishioners known as “Pro Populo” or "For the People" of the parish each week.
